FIELD: vaccines.
SUBSTANCE: vaccine is provided to help prevent disease caused by feline calicivirus (FCV). The vaccine contains a Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis (VEE) alpha virus RNA replicon RNA particle that encodes an FCV antigen representing a capsid protein and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The vaccine may be used to immunize a feline subject against pathogenic FCV. A method for immunizing a feline against pathogenic FCV is proposed, which includes administering an immunologically effective amount of the proposed vaccine to the feline.
EFFECT: vaccine stimulates the production of more widely reactive virus-neutralizing (VN) antibodies and therefore provides better protection against new field isolates.
