FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: conversion reactor for the catalytic oxidation of SO2 to SO3 in a sulfuric acid plant is proposed. The reactor includes a hot water boiler section for cooling the process gas between the catalytic beds. The SO2 conversion reactor of this plant uses one or more water tube boilers to cool the process gas between the catalytic beds. Each water tube boiler is provided with a bypass line on the process gas side for temperature control towards the downstream catalyst bed. At least one water tube boiler is placed inside the conversion reactor vessel and has inclined tubes. The angle of inclination of the tubes is in the range from 0° up to 15° to the horizontal plane. The gas flow is vertical.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the efficiency and heat recovery of a plant for production of sulfuric acid.
