FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of synthesis of sulphur peroxide intended for synthesis of sulphuric acid using sulphur-containing source materials with high potential for formation of so-called wet dust. The method of synthesis includes combustion over oxygenated flow in a furnace (3). Sulphur-containing compounds form SO2 in the supply stream. Gas is further cooled by radiation for the heat to be utilized as high-pressure gas. No less than 50% of useful power in the waste heat boiler (5) is transferred by gas and particle radiation. Additionally the process gas outflowing from the waste heat boiler is cooled in a dilution air heater. The dilution air is added to the process gas to provide sufficient oxygen for oxygenation of SO2 into SO3 in the SO2 converter. The diluted process gas is let into the SO2 converter (12) containing an array of catalyst layers. The waste heat boiler is a radiant heat exchanger in form of a construction with membrane walls, wherein a wall is a cooling surface.
EFFECT: improved heat utilization, decreased deposition in the waste heat boiler and decreased occupied space of said boiler, increased turnaround cycle.
