FIELD: medicine; ophthalmology.

SUBSTANCE: patient undergoes optical coherence tomography with tomogram recording. Set the scan axis to the second vessels bifurcation to search for inspected vessels on the tomogram and measure shadow width of inspected vessels: arterioles and venules at the level of pigment epithelium layer corresponding to inner diameter of retinal vessels. After that determine arteriolo-venular coefficient as the ratio of the values of the inner arteriole diameter to the inner venule diameter. Compare calculated arteriolo-venular coefficient with the reference value calculated for ratio of the average value of inner arteriole diameter to the average value of inner venule diameter in the control group of patients from study of 60 healthy eyes without fundus abnormalities and negative history. If the arteriolo-venular coefficient value in a healthy eye without occlusion of the central retinal artery is below 0.75 μm, the risk of developing arterial occlusion in this eye is predicted.

EFFECT: method provides effective and accurate prediction of central retinal artery occlusion development in a "healthy" eye in case of arterial occlusion of the fellow eye due to the diagnostic feature which is arteriolo-venular coefficient.
