ELECTRODE FOR INTRAOPERATIVE MAPPING OF FUNCTIONAL BRAIN NETWORKS Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC A61B5/293 A61N1/36

Abstract RU 2794934 C1

FIELD: medical devices.

SUBSTANCE: electrode for intraoperative mapping of the functional networks of the brain contains a body and conductive elements, including working contacts 3, wires 4 and connector contacts 5. The body has the shape of an umbrella, contains a handle 1 and spokes 2 and is made of a flexible plastic material. Working contacts 3 have a convex active surface and are located on the spokes 2 of the housing. The handle 1 in the proximal part has a rectangular cross section. The body contains 4, 8, 12 or 16 spokes of round, oval or rectangular cross section. Each spoke is 5 to 10 cm long and contains 1 to 10 working contacts. The working contacts 3 are in the form of a cylinder or toroid, the height is from 1 to 5 mm and they recede from the side surface of the spokes at a distance of 1 to 5 mm. The distance between the working contacts 3 on each spoke is 5 to 10 mm. Connector contacts 5 are located in the area of the proximal part of the handle 1 or in the area of the distal ends of the spokes 2. The case is made of nitinol or stainless steel and coated with an insulating biocompatible material such as Teflon or medical grade silicone. Working contacts 3 are made of stainless steel, an alloy of gold, silver or platinum. Wires 4 and connector contacts 5 are made of an alloy of copper, gold, silver or platinum.

EFFECT: congruence of the electrode with respect to the surgical wound, tight fit to the medulla and thereby improving the quality of registration of electrophysiological data, as well as the quality of stimulation, which allows performing surgical manipulations between the needles of the electrode without removing the electrode from the wound and without displacing it, and in the aggregate allows to prevent damage to the functional networks of the brain, which implies an improvement in the outcomes of neurosurgical operations and a decrease in the risk of developing postoperative functional deficit.
