FIELD: measuring technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for non-contact measurement of length of metal pipes, both finished products and during their production at metallurgical, machine-building enterprises. The method includes steps in which the controlled pipe is placed in isolation above a grounded metal plane and electromagnetic oscillations are excited in the first radio wave resonator in form of a long linear segment. Next, the difference fn+p - fn of resonant frequencies fn+p and fn of electromagnetic oscillations corresponding to the numbers n + p and n of half-waves of a standing electromagnetic wave along a segment of the long line and excited sequentially in this segment of the long line is measured. Additionally, electromagnetic oscillations are excited in the second radio wave resonator located within the measuring section and filled with the environment in the measuring section, and the resonant frequency f of electromagnetic oscillations of this radio wave resonator is measured. A joint transformation of the measured values is carried out according to the ratio cp/2f0 · f/(f/fn+p - fn), the result of which is used to assess the length of the metal pipe.
EFFECT: increase in accuracy of determining the length of a metal pipe.
