FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measuring technology and can be used for contactless measurement of the length of metal pipes as finished products and as for their production at metallurgical and machine building enterprises. Essence of the claimed technical solution lies in the fact that in the proposed method for measuring the length of a metal pipe, in which the controlled metal pipe is positioned isolated above the grounded metal plane, in the aggregate of conductors-pipes and a given plane-excite electromagnetic oscillations of the TEM type, as in a segment of a long line open at the ends, with deviation of their frequency, and measure one of the oscillatory characteristics of a segment of a long line, by which the length of the metal tube is judged, as the measured oscillation characteristic, the difference ƒn+p – ƒn resonant frequencies fn+p and fn electromagnetic oscillations corresponding to the numbers n+p and n half-waves of a standing electromagnetic wave along a length of a long line, excited sequentially in a given segment of a long line; n=1, 2, …; p=1, 2, etc.
EFFECT: expansion of the functionality of the measurement method.
