FIELD: welding.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to obtain a permanently welded joint of a quartz optical fibre with a sapphire optical fibre. Before welding, the ends of the fibres are polished at angles that ensure the parallelism of the ends of the fibres, which ensure the exclusion of back reflection from the place of the welded joint of the fibres. The ends are arranged parallel to each other opposite at a distance that ensures the convergence of the ends during welding due to the melting and movement of the sapphire fibre during its linear thermal expansion. The end of the quartz fibre is placed above the end of the sapphire fibre. Welding is carried out with a plasma arc by heating the sapphire fibre to the melting temperature when the welding source is displaced towards the sapphire fibre.
EFFECT: simultaneous uniform heating of welded materials with different coefficients of linear thermal expansion.
