FIELD: hydrocarbon processing.
SUBSTANCE: present invention is related to a process for removing hydrogen and lighter hydrocarbons from a hydrocarbon stream. The process includes the following steps: a) passing a hydrocarbon stream containing hydrogen and C1-C3 hydrocarbons into a stripper to obtain a stripper off-gas stream from said stripper’s top section and a bottom stream containing C3 hydrocarbons; b) passing said bottom stream through a C3 splitter to obtain a second propane-containing bottom stream and a second propylene-containing top stream; c) directing said second top stream through a membrane unit to produce a permeate stream containing a higher concentration of propylene than said second top stream and a retentate stream containing a higher concentration of propane than said second top stream; and d) directing said retentate stream to a surge tank to separate said retentate stream into a propane stream and a surge tank off-gas stream containing hydrocarbons from C1 to C2.
EFFECT: prevention of accumulation of light fractions in the propylene stream.
