FIELD: preparation of coumarins.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to a process for preparation of coumarins of formula (I) by mechanochemical activation during attrition in a ball mill of a compound of formula (II) with a compound (III), the reaction is carried out without a solvent in presence of 10 mol.% of acid catalyst, where R1 represents hydrogen; R2 is C1-C6 alkyl, C6 aryl; R3 is H or OH; R5 is OH; R4 and R6 are H and where acid catalyst is C1-C 6 alkyl-SO3H.
EFFECT: efficient, scalable, environmentally friendly, mechanochemical synthesis of coumarin derivatives from phenols and β-ketoesters at ambient temperature without the use of solvents.
