METHOD OF ASSESSING THE PRESENCE OF COMPRESSION SYNDROME WITH AN INCREASE IN THE VOLUME OF THE THYROID GLAND Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC A61B5/55

Abstract RU 2800016 C1

FIELD: medicine; surgery; endocrinology.

SUBSTANCE: patient undergoes magnetic resonance imaging of the soft tissues of the neck. The analysis of tomograms is carried out in the skeletotopic reference of the slice. The anterior tubercle of the first cervical vertebra is taken as the zero level. The counting is from the cranial to the caudal direction. Two mutually perpendicular ordinate axes are drawn through the center of the vertebra, taken as a reference point, and the position of the points in space is described by their coordinates. The relationship of the thyroid gland with the larynx, trachea, esophagus, vascular bundle, the degree of their displacement relative to the ordinate axes are assessed in comparison with the tomography data of patients with normal thyroid volume. Diagnostic coefficients are determined and summarized for each quantitative compression criterion. The displacement of the organs and structures of the neck is assessed, the diagnostic coefficients and the information content of the compression parameters are calculated: tracheal displacement posteriorly, angular displacement, displacement of the vascular bundle laterally from the midline on one side, displacement of the carotid artery posteriorly, an increase in the distance between the carotid artery and the jugular vein, narrowing of the trachea, a decrease in the transverse size of the esophagus, a posterior displacement of the larynx, a decrease in the anteroposterior size of the short muscles of the neck. The probability of having a compression syndrome is determined.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to detect the presence or absence of compression syndrome in patients with goiter, to objectify the diagnosis of compression syndrome and to substantiate treatment tactics.
