NEEDLE COKE WITH LOW COEFFICIENT OF THERMAL EXPANSION AND LOW CRACKING Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC C10B57/04 C01B32/05

Abstract RU 2800053 C1

FIELD: coking.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is related to variants of needle coke with a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and low cracking. One variant is needle coke, obtained by mixing and coking 100 weight fractions of a basic raw material for needle coke, consisting of a heavy oil based on coal tar or based on petroleum, having a weak hydrogen releasing property with a PDQI value calculated using equation (1), less than 5.0, with 10-80 weight fractions of secondary raw materials having a strong hydrogen release property with a PDQI value calculated using equation (1), 5.0 or more, and calcining the obtained raw coke: where [Equation (1)] has PDQI=H%× 10× (HNβ /H), where H% is the amount of hydrogen (wt.%) obtained using elemental analysis, and HNβ/H is the ratio of β-naphthenic hydrogen to total hydrogen, measured with 1H-NMR. Moreover, the specified coke has a crystallite size Lc 4.0-10.0 nm, interplanar interval d002 0.340-0.350 nm, proportion of open pores 0.15-0.40 and the standard deviationσ (θ) of the average orientation angle 0.01-0.85.

EFFECT: production of needle coke with low CTE and low cracking by limiting the characteristics of the main raw materials and secondary raw materials, and by controlling the structure of needle coke obtained by coking and calcining to ensure a specific structure.
