FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to the method of making a carbon electrode for use as an anode in an electrolysis bath for producing aluminium. A composite, which is a mixture of coke pellets and particles of a carbon substance, distinct from the coke pellets, are mixed with coal tar pitch or combined pitch at high temperature with formation of a paste. The said composite is a combination of large, medium and fine particles and the said coke pellets can mainly contain the said fine particles and the said paste contains approximately 80-90 wt % of the said composite and approximately 10-20 wt % of the said pitch. The said paste is moulded into a solid object and then burnt at high temperature, forming the said carbon electrode.

EFFECT: design of carbon electrode with possibility of recycling coke pellets.
