FIELD: aerosol generation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol generating device and a method for controlling it. The aerosol generating device comprises: a heater configured to heat the aerosol generating material; a battery configured to supply power to the heater; a controller configured to determine an operating state of the aerosol generating device as a heating state or a non-heating state; the first section of the circuit, configured to control the operation of the heater; and a second circuit section configured to control the charging and discharging of the battery, in which the controller is configured to communicate with the first circuit section in a heating state, communicate with the second circuit section in a non-heating state, and determine, based on the communication results, whether a malfunction has occurred, according to the operating state of the aerosol generating device. The controller is configured to: obtain first data on the amount of current passing through the first section of the circuit, based on the operating state of the device for generating aerosol, defined as a state of heating, obtain second data on the amount of current passing through the second section of the circuit, based on the operating state of the device for generating an aerosol defined as a non-heating state, determine whether a fault has occurred in the first circuit section based on at least one of the first current amount data and the second current amount data.

EFFECT: providing a device for generating an aerosol, which provides a more accurate way to control its operation.
