FIELD: aerosol-generating device.

SUBSTANCE: device for generating an aerosol and a method for controlling such a device. The aerosol generating device includes a heater configured to heat a substance to generate an aerosol. Also contains a battery configured to supply electricity to the heater. Also contains a memory and a controller configured to determine the residual capacity of the battery during the battery charging stage. The controller is configured to determine whether the battery charging history data to the maximum level is stored in the memory. Charge history data includes information about the period of time from the point at which the battery voltage is at a specified voltage level until the point at which the battery is charged to its maximum level. If the charging history data is not stored in memory, then the determination of the remaining battery capacity is performed from a source data table stored in memory and containing data on the charging current and/or charging time relative to the battery charge level. If the charging history data is stored in memory, the determination of the remaining battery capacity is performed by the time elapsed since the battery voltage reaches the specified voltage level and the time period specified in the charging history data.

EFFECT: creation of a device for generating an aerosol allowing to accurately calculate the residual capacity of a battery based on the presence or absence of a history of charging the battery to the maximum level.
