FIELD: medicine; ophthalmology.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to treat corneal defects with delayed epithelialization using scleral contact lenses. The patient is put a gas-permeable scleral contact lens (SCL) on from the first day of treatment. Before installation on the eye, the SCL is filled with tear drops. Then tear drops are instilled into the conjunctival cavity 4–12 times a day. The patient wears the SCL in the developed mode in increasing order: for 2–3 hours during the 1st day; for 3–4 hours during the 2nd day; for 4–5 hours during the 3rd day; for 5–7 hours during the 4th day; for 7–9 hours during the 5th day; for 9–12 hours during the 6th day; for 12–16 hours during the 7th and subsequent days until complete epithelialization of corneal defects.
EFFECT: invention provides acceleration of recovery and epithelialization, prevention of recurrence and progression of defects in the corneal epithelium, maintenance of the necessary hydration of the ocular surface with the possibility of protecting the corneal stroma from damaging factors.
