FIELD: oil and fat industry; feed industry.

SUBSTANCE: Pongamia composition, which is a meal, containing: karanjin at a concentration of less than or equal to 100 ppm (ppm); and at least one or more components selected from the group consisting of carbohydrates, proteins, fibres, ash, tannins, trypsin inhibitors, other furanoflavonoids, and chalcones. A feed composition containing: at least 30% by weight of the Pongamia composition and the main feed. A method for producing a Pongamia composition, comprising: mechanical extraction of Pongamia oilseeds to obtain a defatted Pongamia seed cake, wherein the defatted Pongamia seed cake contains 8-30% oil by weight; mixing the defatted Pongamia seed cake with an alkyl alkanoate solvent to obtain an extraction mixture in which the alkyl alkanoate solvent optionally includes ethyl acetate; measuring the concentration of carangin in the alkylalkanoate extract; and separating the extraction mixture into a miscella and a Pongamia composition. Wherein, the Pongamia composition is a meal having (i) a concentration of carangin that is less than 20% of the concentration of carangin in the defatted cake of seeds of Pongamia, or (ii) a concentration of carangin that is less than or equal to 100 ppm. A method of feeding a ruminant, comprising providing the ruminant with a Pongamia composition or a Pongamia feed composition.

EFFECT: invention allows more complete and thorough extraction of karanjin and pongamol from untreated Pongamia seed cake, without reducing the amount of other components, including macronutrients (such as protein and carbohydrates), which are very important for achieving acceptable feed efficiency.
