SUBSTANCE: halogenated compound represented by formula II, where R⁵ in formula II represents C₁-C₁₂ alkyl, C₃-C₁₂ cycloalkyl, or C₆-C₂₀ aryl. Also proposed are the use of the said halogen-containing compound as a ligand in an ethylene oligomerization catalyst composition, an ethylene oligomerization catalyst composition containing said halogen-containing compound, and methods for ethylene oligomerization, trimerization and tetramerization using the said catalyst.

EFFECT: improved catalytic properties of the catalyst system, especially the catalytic properties in the reaction of ethylene trimerization and ethylene tetramerization, significantly improved activity and selectivity, and significantly reduced formation of by-products such as cycloolefin and cyclization product.
