SUBSTANCE: system for measuring the optical density of a Tetraselmis viridis microalgae culture and a method for measuring the optical density in an algae cultivation facility using this system are proposed. The system includes a unit for cultivating algae, consisting of a cultivator, bubbling and flow devices, means for supplying a nutrient medium and removing the finished product, an optical density sensor containing an LED and a photodiode installed on opposite sides relative to the suspension flow, whereas the system is supplemented with a control unit, a relay connected to a temperature sensor, with an optical density sensor operating in the range of 900-980 nm, with devices for bubbling and flowing the suspension through the optical density sensor with the ability to automatically control the bubbling of the suspension pumped through the optical density sensor, and for the flow of the suspension of microalgae cells, a silicone tube placed between the LED and the photodiode; for communication of the control unit with the user, a wireless communication module is used to transfer data to a mobile phone, cloud storage or a personal computer. The method includes calibrating the sensor, cultivating algae in a cultivator with culture sparging, measuring the optical density of the culture, which is sparged with air bubbles, and sparging is turned off for 90 s every 300 s.
EFFECT: inventions provide round-the-clock monitoring and software control of the kinetic characteristics of microalgae and their growing conditions in real time at all stages of growth.
