SUBSTANCE: invention relates to safety systems for fibre optic cable systems in hazardous areas. A fibre-optic cable line includes an optical cable, transceiver equipment located mainly outside the explosive zone, to which all the optical fibres of the cable are connected in a way that allows at least 2 communication channels to be transmitted over each optical fibre, equipment for measuring the attenuation coefficient, a software and hardware complex for control of the operation of transceiver and measuring equipment, each fibre is connected to its own unit of transceiver equipment, and the measuring equipment uses one of the channels to test the attenuation of the signal in the fibre and, if the attenuation in the optical fibre grows above a predetermined value, the software and hardware complex produces disabling signal transmission at least along the fibre in which attenuation growth is detected.

EFFECT: ensuring safe operation of a data transmission system based on a fibre-optic cable in explosive areas in case of cable damage, resulting in the removal of optical radiation energy into a potentially explosive environment.
