FIELD: flow redox batteries.
SUBSTANCE: method for preparing an acidic vanadium electrolyte with an average oxidation degree of +3.5 is characterized by the fact that the electrolysis of a vanadium compound divided into two arbitrary parts with an oxidation degree of +4 is carried out in the presence of additives of inorganic acids with the addition of a reducing agent to the positive electrolyte, after which the positive and negative electrolytes are combined. The vanadium compound with an oxidation state of +4 can be an intermediate in the background electrolyte obtained by chemical reduction of vanadium-containing raw materials with an oxidation degree of more than +4 in the presence of additives of inorganic acids. A reducing agent is added to the positive electrolyte, the amount of which is calculated on the basis of the stoichiometric reduction reaction of VO2+ to VO2+.
EFFECT: simplicity in the implementation of the method, without the use of expensive components, in particular, a catalyst, and complex dosing equipment is also not required. This method has great potential for scaling up to industrial production.
