FIELD: hydrocarbon processing.
SUBSTANCE: present invention is related to a method for upgrading residual hydrocarbon stock. A method is described for upgrading residual hydrocarbon feedstock obtained from the distillation of crude oil at atmospheric or reduced pressure, including the following stages: a) thermal cracking, carried out at a temperature in the range from 440 to 490°C and a pressure in the range from 400 to 1300 kPa and separating the residual hydrocarbon stock in a visbreaker unit to produce one or more overhead streams containing light hydrocarbon products and gas oil, and a bottom stream containing cracked residue; b) subjecting the cracked residue product to step a) a solvent deasphalting process using a deasphalting solvent to obtain a deasphalting product that is soluble in said deasphalting solvent; and an asphalt product insoluble in said deasphalting solvent, wherein deasphalting is carried out at a total ratio of extracting solvent to residual hydrocarbon oil of 1.5 to 8 w/w, pressure of 1 to 60 bar abs. and temperature from 40 to 200°C; c) separating the deasphalted product into deasphalted oil and resin by critical temperature separation; and d) further thermal conversion of the resin by recycling the resin to step a).
EFFECT: upgrading of residual hydrocarbon stock to extract valuable components.
