FIELD: analysers.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the standardization of an electrical conductivity output signal used in an analyser that also includes an optical spectrometer. The method (300) for standardizing the output signal of an electrical property sensor includes the steps of: comparing, in a data processor, a measured value (Condm) of the electrical property of an electrically conductive liquid obtained by the electrical property sensor with a reference value (Condr) of the electrical property (320); and determining in the data processor a standardization factor (F) depending on the ratio of the reference value (Condr) and the measured value (Condm) (340), wherein a step (330) of calculating the reference value (Condr) is provided, including obtaining using a spectrometer of spectral data obtained from the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with an electrically conductive liquid (310); and applying, in the data processor, a mathematical model to the spectral data to calculate a reference quantity (Condr) that relates the spectral data to the electrical property value.

EFFECT: no additional fluids are required to be introduced into the analyser and the method can be performed using measurements obtained during normal operation, for example, during the reference or "zeroing" cycle of the analyser.
