FIELD: ophthalmology.

SUBSTANCE: method for the treatment of damage to the surface of the cornea of the eye and/or dry eye symptoms. A method for treating or reducing the severity of dryness in a patient suffering from dry eye syndrome associated with meibomian gland dysfunction involves local administration of a composition consisting of 1-perfluorohexyl octane to the patient eye. The composition is administered locally into the patient's eye in the form of one drop of approximately 10-12 μl 4 times a day. In this case, the patient is characterized by a score on the meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) scale equal to or higher than 7, on a scale from 0 to 15. Also a method for treating or reducing damage to the central corneal surface of an eye in a patient suffering from dry eye syndrome associated with meibomian gland dysfunction is provided. In another embodiment, a method is provided for treating or reducing damage to the central corneal surface of the eye and treating or reducing the severity of dry eye in a patient suffering from dry eye syndrome associated with meibomian gland dysfunction. These methods include local administration of a composition consisting of 1-perfluorohexyl octane to the patient eye, wherein the composition is administered locally to the patient's eye in the form of a single drop of approximately 10-12 μl 4 times a day. This patient has a meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) score equal to or greater than 7 on a scale of 0 to 15.

EFFECT: increased efficiency in the treatment of damage to the surface of the central zone of the eye cornea and the treatment of symptoms of dryness in a patient suffering from dry eye syndrome associated with meibomian glands dysfunction.
