SUBSTANCE: technology and equipment for the repair of heat exchangers. Invention can be used when replacing and repairing pipes of a smoke tube bundle. The heat exchanger repair method includes dismantling the heat exchanger, visual inspection of welded joints, non-destructive magnetic or capillary inspection of welded joints to identify defective welded joints, drying of a defective welded joint at a temperature of 50°C - 70°C, formation of the necessary groove by complete sampling of the defective welded joint, preheating of the sampling area at a temperature of 50°C - 100°C, assembly of the butt joint of the smoke pipe and pipe sheet with temporary tacks, degreasing and drying the surface of the butt joint, sequential manual argon arc welding of the butt joint, control of the welded joint by non-destructive magnetic or capillary methods.

EFFECT: simplifying the design, increasing the reliability and accessibility of the method of repairing heat exchangers.
