FIELD: detection of particles or substances of interest in objects.
SUBSTANCE: detector unit contains at least one array of sensitive elements, in which the sensitive elements are configured to detect photons emitted by an object as a result of positron annihilation. Each sensor element in the array is linked or associated with one or more other sensor elements in the array to define a region of interest (Rol). The detector unit comprises or is in communication with a match trigger unit, wherein the match trigger unit is configured to detect or determine a match in response to receiving detection signals from two different sensing elements forming part of the same Rol and indicating detection, essentially collinear and coinciding photons in this Rol.
EFFECT: increase of sensitivity and accuracy of diamond detection.
