FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing carbon monoxide (CO) and molecular hydrogen (H2) from CO2 containing gas, the method comprises the following: bringing CO2 containing gas into contact with an aqueous absorption solution containing bicarbonate and sodium or potassium carbonate in the ratio (mol/mol) bicarbonate and carbonate in the range from 0.5 to 2, at a temperature in the range of about 5–70°C for the purpose of producing a bicarbonate-rich stream and a CO2-depleted gas; and directing the bicarbonate-rich stream to electrochemical conversion to produce a gaseous stream containing CO and H2. The invention also relates to a system.
EFFECT: proposed technology does not require the release of purified CO2 gas before the electrochemical conversion of CO2 into CO and H2.
