FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to production of magnesium and magnesium alloy with high formability and can be used in the automotive, aircraft and railway industries. Methods for manufacturing a profile product from magnesium or a magnesium alloy, which has high formability at room temperature and has a grain size of ≤2 mcm, are claimed. Magnesium or a magnesium alloy containing at least one of the following elements: aluminium, zinc, tin, silver and zirconium is processed into a profile product by extruding raw materials at a temperature of 20-80°C and extrusion ratios from 10:1 to 100:1, and high formability at room temperature is ensured due to the main deformation mechanism in the form of intergranular sliding together with grain rotation and dynamic recrystallization, rather than intragranular deformation.
EFFECT: production of magnesium or magnesium alloy having ultra-high formability at room temperature using simple technological means.
