FIELD: aerosol-generating systems.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an electrically heated aerosol-generating device and an aerosol-generating system containing such a device. An electrically heated aerosol generating device for use with an aerosol generating article comprises: a device body comprising a receiving cavity within a proximal portion of the device for housing at least a portion of the aerosol generating article; a dividing wall located adjacent to the distal end portion of the receiving cavity, separating the receiving cavity in the proximal portion of the device from the distal portion of the device; at least one electrical heating device for heating the aerosol-generating substrate within the article when the article is placed in the receiving cavity; a sensing circuit comprising a field generator, wherein the field generator is located adjacent a distal end portion of the receiving cavity opposite the proximal end portion of the receiving cavity in the dividing wall or circumferentially along the perimeter or outer circumference of the dividing wall. The sensing circuit is configured to measure a change in at least one property of the field generator caused by the presence of an indicator located on or in the product when the product is placed in the receiving cavity.

EFFECT: inventions provide an aerosol generating device for use with an aerosol generating product comprising improved means for identifying the product, in particular those that provide increased difficulty for the use of incompatible or counterfeit products with the device.
