FIELD: aerosol-generating systems.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol-generating device, as well as an aerosol-generating system. An aerosol-generating device for use with an aerosol-generating article comprises a receiving chamber configured to accommodate at least a portion of the aerosol-generating article with the possibility of removal and having an internal surface and a central axis. Along the central axis, the inner surface includes the first axial portion, the second axial portion, and an intermediate axial portion located between the first axial portion and the second axial portion. The first axial portion contains a plurality of first projections, and the second axial portion contains a plurality of second projections. The plurality of first projections and the plurality of second projections are configured to contact the first support member and the second support member of the aerosol-generating article, respectively, to retain the aerosol-generating article in the receiving chamber. A plurality of the first projections and a plurality of the second projections extend toward the central axis beyond the intermediate axial portion. The intermediate axial portion has a length constituting at least 20% of the total length of the inner surface or receiving chamber in the direction of the central axis, and is configured to surround the substrate element of the aerosol-generating article when the article is placed in the receiving chamber.
