SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method for manufacturing an aerosol-generating element and an aerosol-generating element. A method for manufacturing an aerosol-generating element for an aerosol-generating article or system includes the steps of: obtaining a solution of a matrix polymer containing a matrix-forming polymer in water; adding a plurality of components of an aerosol-generating composition to a matrix polymer solution to form an aerosol-generating solution, wherein the components of the aerosol-generating composition comprise a polyhydric alcohol and at least one alkaloid or cannabinoid; obtaining a discrete portion of the aerosol-generating solution; adding a discrete portion of the aerosol generating solution to the solution of multivalent cross-linking cations to cross-link the matrix-forming polymer; and removing the aerosol generating element from the solution to cross-link and dry the aerosol-generating element.

EFFECT: improved encapsulated substrate characterized by increased stability and minimal leakage of the aerosol generating composition.
