SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol-generating article. Aerosol-generating article for producing an inhaled aerosol when heated contains an aerosol-forming substrate containing a gel composition. Gel composition contains at least one gelling agent, at least one of an alkaloid compound and a cannabinoid compound and an aerosol-forming substance. Article comprises an upstream element located upstream of the aerosol-forming substrate. Article also has a recess extending from the upstream end of the aerosol-generating article, through the upstream element and through at least a portion of the aerosol-forming substrate, wherein the longitudinal inner surface of the recess is provided with a wrapper.

EFFECT: providing the retention of components in place due to the barrier provided between the substrate and the heater.
