FIELD: smoking accessories.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol-generating element for use in an aerosol-generating article or system. Aerosol-generating element for use in an aerosol-generating article or system comprises a solid continuous matrix structure and an aerosol-generating composition dispersed within the solid continuous matrix structure. Aerosol-generating composition is trapped within the solid continuous matrix structure and is configured to be released from the solid continuous matrix structure when the aerosol-generating element is heated. Solid continuous matrix structure is an alginate matrix, and the aerosol-generating composition dispersed within the solid continuous matrix structure consists of: nicotine in amount of 1 to 4 percent by weight of the total weight of the aerosol-generating element; glycerol in amount of 60 to 80 percent by weight of the total weight of the aerosol-generating element; carboxylic acid in amount of 0.5 to 4 percent by weight of the total weight of the aerosol-generating element; and water. Aerosol-generating composition dispersed within the solid continuous matrix structure is at least 80 percent by weight of the total weight of the aerosol-generating element; and the aerosol generating element contains less than 15 percent by weight of water.
EFFECT: providing an aerosol-generating element with an encapsulated nicotine-containing composition, which provides an improved encapsulated substrate, characterized by high stability and minimal leakage of the aerosol-generating composition.
