FIELD: production of cellulose carbamate.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for controlling emissions of nitrogen-containing compounds in the production of cellulose carbamate (CCA). Microcrystalline cellulose is obtained from chemical cellulose formed in a pulp mill by acid hydrolysis of chemical cellulose at elevated temperature to form microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and hydrolysate, and MCC is reacted with urea to form cellulose carbamate, resulting in the release of ammonia, and where microcrystalline cellulose production and cellulose carbamate production are combined with a pulp mill having an exhaust gas treatment system such that carbon dioxide from the exhaust gas is reacted with ammonia to produce urea, which is used to produce carbamate.
