FIELD: synthesis of materials.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the synthesis of materials that absorb heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions and can be used to purify water from cobalt ions. The synthesis is carried out thanks to the bubbling of a solution of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, boric acid and ethylenediamine, its processing by the reflux method and dialysis, followed by hydrolysis and polycondensation of the resulting suspension to obtain a gel. Hydrolysis of the resulting suspension with the formation of a sol and polycondensation with the formation of a gel, carried out in a solution consisting of 96% ethyl alcohol and tetraethoxysilane with the addition of two-molar hydrochloric acid followed by the addition of ammonia, make it possible to increase the specific surface area of the sorbent due to the branched porous structure of the formed gel.
