FIELD: metal chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: magnesium-based alloys of the Mg-Y-Gd-2r system, which may also additionally contain small amounts of other rare earth metals, in particular methods of their deformation processing, used in the automotive industry, aviation industry and rocket science as lightweight construction material for products operating at room temperature and at elevated temperatures (up to 300°C). The method of processing magnesium alloys with yttrium and gadolinium includes preliminary heat treatment by homogenization annealing at a temperature of 510-520°C for 6-8 hours, followed by quenching in water at room temperature, deformation by rotary forging at a temperature of 450-460°C with a total degree of deformation of 1.5-2 and subsequent heat treatment by aging at 200°C for 32-64 hours. In this case, during the processing, a structure is formed consisting of grains with a size of 20-35 microns, deformation twins, as well as strengthening particles of intermetallic phases rich in rare earth metals.
EFFECT: multiple increase in strength characteristics (tensile strength by more than 2 times and an increase in the conditional yield strength by more than 3 times) with sufficient structural ductility.
