FIELD: aerosol generating devices.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is related to an electrically heated aerosol-generating device and an aerosol-generating system. The device includes a receiving cavity for receiving and retrieving at least a portion of an aerosol-generating article containing a substrate that forms an aerosol to be heated. The device further includes an electric heater for heating the aerosol-forming substrate when the product is placed in the receiving cavity. In addition, the device includes a condition detector for detecting the presence of at least one specific condition in the receiving cavity. The state detector contains a radiation source located and configured to emit radiation into the receiving cavity. The condition detector further includes a radiation sensor located and configured to detect a portion of the emitted radiation reflected from the interior of the receiving cavity and indicating the presence of at least one particular condition. The radiation source and radiation sensor are located outside the receiving cavity such that the radiation source and radiation sensor are not in fluid communication with the interior of the receiving cavity, and at least a portion of the state detector is located near or adjacent to the distal end portion of the cavity. The location of the radiation source and radiation sensor outside the receiving cavity makes it possible to simplify the design of the cavity. Locating the condition detector near or adjacent to the distal end portion of the cavity is beneficial because this portion is most sensitive to changes in air density in the receiving cavity that occur during user-operated puffing.

EFFECT: provides fast and instantaneous state detection without any delay between the occurrence of a particular state or state change and its ability to be detected at the state detector position.
