FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of aluminium electrolysis using baked carbon anodes and can be used in electrolysis in the process of installing new anodes into the electrolyzer after removing the used ones. A method for heating baked anodes for aluminium electrolysis includes preheating the anode before installing it in a molten cryolite-alumina electrolyte, and the anode is heated by induction to a temperature from above 900 to 960°C.
EFFECT: reducing the consequences of thermal shock when immersing the baked anode in the melt, reducing the formation of a non-conductive cryolite-alumina layer on the surface of the anode, creating conditions for the new anode to quickly reach its full current load, which ensures uniform current distribution and reduces specific energy consumption, reducing losses of fluoride salts and emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere of the housing.
