SUBSTANCE: monitoring signs of normal plant growth. The method for applying fertilizer includes identifying rows of plants in a section of the field by means of an optical imaging unit using a colour component and/or an infrared imaging unit using an infrared component; identification of all rows of plants in the harvested area of the field; recognition of rows of plants with applied fertilizer using the following data sets: the colour component of the identified plants, preferably the green colour component, and/or the infrared component of the identified plants, the distance between plants, the distance between rows of plants, the growth stage of plants, the geographical coordinates of sowing plants, comparison of the obtained image with test sample and fertilization. Rows of plants on which no fertilizer is applied are used as a test sample, and fertilizer is applied based on the difference between the information obtained from identifying plants with fertilizer applied and from the plants of the test sample, through a spraying device or to the roots of plants, depending on the species plants and type of fertilizer.

EFFECT: improving the accuracy of determining the need to apply the product, increasing productivity, and reducing fertilizer consumption.
