FIELD: oil and gas.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for removing oil and oil products from the surface of water and can be used to clean the water surface from spilled oil products. A method for cleaning a water surface from oil and petroleum products involves treating the contaminated surface with powdered divinylstyrene thermoplastic elastomer at a mass ratio of divinylstyrene thermoplastic elastomer: oil and/or petroleum product of 1:3-7, and converting the contaminants into a hardened rubber-like state. The pre-divinylstyrene thermoplastic elastomer is exposed to ultrasound with a power of 60 W for 10-30 minutes at a temperature of 40-50° C. After a durable rubber-like carpet is formed on the treated surface, it is collected and disposed of by dissolving in oil and heavy petroleum products to increase their volume and further use.

EFFECT: reducing the time required to clean the water surface by increasing the rate of sorption of oil and petroleum products, as well as increasing the efficiency of disposal due to better solubility of the rubber-like coating removed from the water surface in oil and petroleum products to increase their volume and useful use.
