SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a technology for creating terahertz quantum cascade lasers with tunable emission frequency capability. A method for tuning the generation frequency of a terahertz quantum cascade laser, which consists in changing the transverse component of the wave vector of the laser mode by changing the refractive index in the tuning element when applying an external electric field, which is optically coupled to the resonator of the quantum cascade laser, while the width of the laser stripe is terahertz quantum cascade laser is shorter than the wavelength of terahertz radiation, and the tuning element has a pronounced dependence of the refractive index on the applied electric field in the terahertz region of the spectrum and is located at a distance of no more than 10 mcm from the resonator of the terahertz quantum cascade laser.

EFFECT: simplification of the circuit, in which there are no mechanically moving parts.
