SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of maintaining optical discharge in order to obtain broadband optical radiation with high spectral brightness and is of interest for applications in microelectronics, spectroscopy, photochemistry and other fields. In the method of maintaining an optical discharge, which consists in the ignition of an optical discharge located in the discharge chamber, that laser radiation is supplied to a thin-film polariser at a Brewster angle, reflected beam with s-polarization is passed through the corresponding quarter-wave plate, reflected from two mirrors and focused in the discharge volume. Transmitted p-polarized beam is passed through the corresponding quarter-wave plate and focused in the discharge volume. Return beams reflected from plasma are reflected from two mirrors, passed through quarter-wave plates, directed to thin-film polariser and taken to radiation absorber.
