FIELD: fermentation.

SUBSTANCE: fermentation reactor including a loop part and an upper tank, wherein this loop part includes a downflow part connected to an upflow part through a U-shaped part, wherein the upper tank includes: (i) a first outlet connecting the upper tank having a downflow part of the loop part and allowing the fermentation liquid present in the upper tank to flow from the upper tank to the loop part; (ii) a first inlet connecting the upper tank to the upflow part of the loop part and allowing the fermentation liquid present in the loop part to flow from the loop part to the upper tank; and (iii) a vent pipe to discharge waste gases from the upper tank. The upper tank further includes a visual observation means located at an end of the upper tank providing a view from the first inlet to the first outlet with a substantially horizontal field of view.

EFFECT: invention provides visual monitoring of the development of foaming during fermentation.
