FIELD: SHF technology; attenuators.

SUBSTANCE: waveguide attenuator comprises a section of a rectangular waveguide and an absorber with a constant surface resistance, which has identical matching triangular bevels at the beginning and end and is mounted flush on one of the wide walls of the section of a rectangular waveguide, which is configured to move in a direction perpendicular to adjacent walls. The length of the matching triangular bevels is chosen to be L m = R S 2ρ a ln(1/ K P1 ) , where: a is the size of the wide wall of the rectangular waveguide; KP1, KP3 are power transmission coefficients for areas of identical triangular matching bevels; KP2 is the power transmission coefficient for the central region of the absorber; KP is the power transmission coefficient of the waveguide attenuator; RS is surface resistance of the absorber; ρ is the characteristic impedance of a section of a rectangular waveguide corresponding to the operating wavelength λ of the input microwave signal,

and the length of the middle region of the absorber is L 0 = R S ρ a ln(1/ K P1 ) .

EFFECT: increase in the permissible power level of the input microwave signal while maintaining high matching quality.
