FIELD: instrument engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to use of attenuator with fixed attenuation when taking measurements in waveguide channels with high power level. This invention consists in the fact that microwave attenuator consists of metal rectangular waveguide, absorber and screen, the waveguide is made with height b narrow wall and width and wide wall, in which there are two interconnected identical smooth transitions of length L and variable height decreasing to b2, absorbing surface of each transition is aligned with absorbing surface of absorber width s located on one of the wide walls of waveguide and the reflecting surface transition is located on the opposite wide wall, if s<a, α=arctg((b-b2)/L), where α is the angle of inclination of transition.

EFFECT: reducing standing-wave ratio and non-uniformity of the transmission coefficient in frequency band of the waveguide, smooth change of electric strength and adjustment of attenuation in small range at structural and process simplification.
