FIELD: petrochemical technology; catalyst systems.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a catalyst system for polymerizing an olefin and a method for polymerizing an olefin. Described is a catalytic system intended for the polymerization of an olefin, including a main catalyst and a cocatalyst, where the cocatalyst includes a 12-membered ring containing compound described by formula (M), where in formula (M) R1-R16 are the same or different, all independently selected from the group consisting of the following: hydrogen, hydroxy group, halogen, cyano group, nitro group, amino group, amine group, aldehyde group, carboxy group, ketone group, alkoxy group and hydrocarbyl, and where two adjacent groups contained in the benzene ring are all selected from the group consisting of the following: alkoxy group and hydrocarbyl, two adjacent groups together may optionally form a ring, the ring is selected from the group consisting of the following: a saturated or unsaturated monocyclic ring, a saturated or unsaturated polycyclic ring, and combinations thereof; and wherein R17-R24 are the same or different, all independently selected from the group consisting of the following: hydrogen and C1-C10 hydrocarbyl, and an amine group, an aldehyde group, a carboxy group, a ketone group, an alkoxy group and a hydrocarbyl group, optionally containing one or more substituents; the main catalyst includes (i) a solid catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, halogen and an internal electron donor; (ii) an organoaluminium compound; and optionally (iii) an external electron donor. Also described is a prepolymerised catalyst composition for polymerizing an olefin, which includes the above catalyst system and a prepolymer obtained by prepolymerising the olefin. A method for polymerizing an olefin includes: polymerizing an olefin having the general formula CH2=CHR in the presence of the above-described catalyst system and/or a prepolymerised catalyst composition, wherein R is hydrogen or C1-C8 alkyl.

EFFECT: development of a catalyst that has relatively high stereospecificity and at the same time retains high activity, so that the olefin polymer has a relatively high isotacticity index and a relatively low ash content.
