FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and is intended for collecting a smear-imprint from the bulbar and secular part of the conjunctiva in patients with a refractive profile with subsequent determination of the density of goblet cells (GC) in the analysed sample during cytological examination, which is a diagnostic criterion in determining the functionality of the water-mucin component of the lachrymal film (LF) in dry eye syndrome (DES). Technical result is achieved by the fact that in the method of collecting smears-imprints from the surface of the eye, according to the invention, three disposable sterile filters “JET BIOFIL” MCE NYLON PVDF PES PTFE CA SFCA PES Express are taken, two of which are divided into two halves, obtaining four semicircles, the smooth side of each semicircle is marked with a separate designation: N, T, S, I; reverse rough side of each semicircle is applied to the bulbar part of the conjunctiva, with the rectilinear edge of the semicircle facing the cornea at distance of 2 mm from it, as follows: N — nasal side, T — temporal side, S — superior side, I — inferior side; third filter is also divided into two halves and applied with the rough side to the external and internal parts of the secular conjunctiva, respectively, having previously turned the lower eyelid outwards; after contact of each filter for 3–5 seconds, they are removed from the surface of the eye, fixed in 96 % ethanol and sent for cytological analysis to obtain a density distribution of goblet cells.

EFFECT: sterility of each filter in an individual package and, as a result, absence of artefacts when analysing the samples, as well as studying the GC density distribution on the entire surface of the conjunctiva and cornea.
