Method for preparing a rat knee joint preparation for histological studies involves extracting and sampling a knee joint preparation, placing the preparation in a histological cassette, placing in 10% neutral buffered formalin solution, removal of the histological cartridge, decalcification of the knee joint preparation with a solution based on ethylenediaminetetraacetate and the knee joint preparation. Patella is centred in the hole of the middle part of the lower wall of the histological cartridge. Knee joint is fixed in a state of maximum extension with the use of two clamps, which are passed through the holes of the side wall of the cassette. One of them is tightened 15 mm above the projection of the joint space of the knee joint, and the second one, 15 mm below. Knee joint preparation is sliced in a frontal plane of the joint. Disclosed is a histological cassette for preparing a rat knee joint preparation.
