FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to cardiovascular surgery. Carotid bifurcation is separated, followed by the application of clamps on carotid arteries. That is followed by an arteriotomy within the bifurcation of the carotid arteries extending to the anterior wall of the ICA and the posterior wall of the external carotid artery (ECA). Second incision is made along the lateral surface of the common carotid artery (CCA) 5 cm below the carotid bifurcation. Carotid endarterectomy is performed. Thereafter, the arteriotomy approaches are closed by suturing the ICA and ECA together; the CCA approach is closed with a continuous blanket suture.
EFFECT: method enables simplifying the operation by excluding cutting off the external carotid artery and improving access to the atherosclerotic plaque on the CCA.
