SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of physics of the nucleus and elementary particles. The substance of the invention lies in the fact that eight electrodes are installed parallel to each other in a sealed housing of a position-sensitive neutron detector: the first cathode, which is an input window, made of a silicon wafer with a multilayer structure; first and second grids; two anodes; third and fourth grids; the second cathode, which is simultaneously an output window, is made of a silicon wafer with a multilayer structure, while on the side of the cathodes facing the grids and anodes, an aluminum layer is deposited over the neutron-converting layer.
EFFECT: invention provides the ability to distinguish between events associated with the detection of a 4He or 7Li nucleus, caused by a fast neutron with an energy of several MeV, and from events of slow neutrons.
